Three teams of girls will represent Romania in the semifinals of the Technovation Challenge
Young girls with potential of entrepreneurs and tech leaders have brought Romania three chances in the semifinals Technovation Challenge – the largest international mobile programming exclusively for girls! Friday, May 12th, 2017 – Today, the Technovation Challenge Regional Pitch took place at the IBM Innovation Center headquarters, attended by 60 passionate students of technology and programming, ages 10 to 18. Each team aimed to build an application using the AppInventor platform and a Business Plan, provided that the application meets the real needs of the company they live in. Participants had a choice between themes such as poverty, education, health, environment, equality, or peace.
At this first event in Romania, the participants had the opportunity to interact with people in the IT field and receive a personalized feedback based on the submitted application. The girls have been delighted with this initiative, claiming they will continue to participate with more courage next year. The best applications will be featured at WORLD PITCH SUMMIT (August 7-11). Winning teams will receive prizes in cash, and the award ceremony takes place in San Francisco.
“With the support and the right resources we can bring the girls closer to technology. Learning a programming language and the ability to create technology gives girls strength and confidence that they can be successful in an area that is currently dominated by boys. Through Technovation Challenge, we offer girls the chance to change the world with the help of technology.” said Alin Chiriac – CEO & Founder ADFABER.
All teams have been judged online by IT & Business employees. Among the jury were Andrei Istrate (GameDev Ambassador), Flavia Negoescu (Digi24), Bradut Palas and Gabriel Craciun (Amber Studio), Andra Necula (Device Hub), Andrada Fiscutean (Tech Journalist), Robert Brezoaie (Founder Tabcodes) Mihai Teodosiu (Network Quality Assurance Engineer). The applications that Romania will represent in the Technovation Challenge semifinals belong to the teams MoxiePuff (Jointly, Onesti), DragonByte (Unitycom, Bucharest) and Ro5IT (Discover Little Paris, Bucharest). The Jointly Application of Moxie Puff is a mobile application with clear and organized cultural information that covers all countries of the world. The information is organized into two main categories: the Student Guide and the Travel Guide, each with 6 subcategories. With this application, students can learn more easily and more pleasantly geographic information and travelers can get in touch with the whole culture of a country, not just with its places.
Dragonbyte launched the UnityCom application – a digital platform linking local farmers with customers, giving them access to organic, healthy, tasty, unprocessed or chemically grown food. Through the application, customers can find the closest farms to get the desired products right there. With the help of the search section, they can search for farmers, enter their profile and contact them by phone. Ro5IT has amazed us with the Little Paris application – an educational educational tool for audiovisual guide in exploring the symbols in Bucharest. Its main purpose is to promote the places and stories of Calea Victoriei and to develop a sense of belonging to the community.
Thanks to those who have believed in the Technovation Challenge Romania (Banca Transilvania, EY, IBM, Visma) and we hope to have them next to us this year as well.
